The SAO audited management of the Office for the Protection of Competition
Press Release – November 11, 2013
The Supreme Audit Office (SAO) audited the Office for the Protection of Competition and the management of assets and State budget funds that the Office is responsible for. During the auditing operation, assets and funds in the amount over CZK 1,700 million were scrutinized.
The Office for the Protection of Competition violated the State Property Act when failed to keep consistent accounts of amounts owed and did not enforce the State’s rights in time. For example, auditors revealed one case, in which the debt’s collection was 43 months overdue.
Auditors revealed several insufficiencies within the Office’s internal control system. In 2012, the Office failed to perform an audit according to the annual plan without proper reasoning. Such proceedings violated the act on financial supervision.
The SAO found errors in the Office’s accounting, namely in keeping records, as well as errors related with the changeover to the new national accounting system.
